The Blackberry Curve 3G 9300 is an immediate upgrade from previous Curve handsets

The Blackberry Curve 3G 9300 is an immediate upgrade from previous Curve handsets

The Blackberry Curve 3G 9300 is an immediate upgrade from previous Curve handsets; it looks almost identical to the 8520 and performs the same too, the key difference is the enhanced 3G which was absent in earlier Blackberry Curve phones. The device has impressive battery life and boasts very good messaging and e-mail support, there are dedicated music keys to manage the music player and there is a digital camera for the snap-happy user. Generally the Curve 3G 9300 is a level up from the 8520 thanks to the 3G technology and the extra power behind the scenes.

Looks wise, the Curve 3G has been given a shiny chrome trim to set it apart from its predecessor. The keyboard is probably one of the best going; it is perfectly configured for the fingertips and though the individually mounted keys are quite small they are well spaced, so accuracy will not be a problem when composing messages and e-mails. They have stuck with the optical track pad which indicates that the Curve is becoming a traditional series rather than an individual model. The track pad delivers the same receptiveness as it did on the old Curve and the screen is still the same. The Blackberry 5 OS is not the slickest of runners, but Blackberry fans will find it to be familiar territory.

If you are a fan of messaging and e-mailing the Blackberry Curve 3G is the ideal phone for you. The handset is cheap and allows access to the famed Blackberry Messenger along with other popular IM providers like GoogleTalk and WindowsLive. All the most popular e-mail providers are also compatible aside from the already successful SMS and MMS messaging formats. Thanks to the reliable 3G technology, the device has integrated support for social networking with both Facebook and Twitter given there own dedicated apps.  Browsing the web is possible, thanks once again to 3G, but Wi Fi is also in place, offering its high speed connectivity when near a local hotspot of WLAN connection.

To round of a generally good smartphone, the camera is not the best on paper; it is a 2MP digital effort with fixed focus and video recording capabilities, to be fair, there is little room for complaint; the picture quality is pretty good and though videos aren’t super smooth, they are good enough for uploading to the likes of Facebook and YouTube, so considering the low grade components the camera is not that bad. The video player is capable of playback for more than a few file types while the music player can play quite a wide range of formats. You can use mp3′s as ringtones and the 3.5mm AV connector enables headphone use. Built-in GPS and Blackberry’s Maps application cover the navigation services smartphones seem to be loaded with these days, so for directions to those all important business meetings, or if you simply wish to map out a route, the Curve 3G has you well covered.

The Blackberry Curve 3G is one in a long line of traditional, business friendly phones. The 3G factor is a nice touch and the phone runs much faster than previous Curve phones. Though much has not been changed, there have been improvements in the fields that count, like the web connectivity and the general smoothness of performance. Blackberry have made there online app store available for additional content and there has been a promise for a Blackberry 6 OS upgrade in the near future. So things are looking up for the Curve brand, and whether you are a first time Blackberry user or a seasoned one, the Curve 3G is ideal for the office and on the go.

A Review of the New Blackberry 9300 Curve 3G

A Review of the New Blackberry 9300 Curve 3G

The excellent messaging capabilities of Blackberry’s ever popular range of handsets is the underlying factor behind the brands soaring popularity with the youth market.

In a day and age where social networking is huge, the great connectivity offered by the Blackberry 9300 Curve 3G is the perfect tool to stay in touch. In terms of the look of the phone, once glance at the handset underlines the fact it is a Blackberry. Perhaps the main reason that the handsets attract a legion of fans is due to the fact that they continually include a Qwerty keypad on the phone. This is perfect for writing e mails and messages, with many users finding the individual keys easier than the more sensitive touchscreen options available. The lack of a touchscreen does potentially make navigating around web pages difficult, however Blackberry have a clever route around this problem. An ultra sensitive optical trackpad is positioned beneath the display. Working in much the same way as a mouse on a home computer, the pointer on the screen responds to the users movements on this pad. It is a big improvement on the trackball fitted on earlier Blackberry models which was prone to sticking and collecting dust. The phone sports a QVGA 2.4″ screen which offers a good quality image thanks to the 320 x 240 resolution that it boasts. The screen is a TFT LCD display and produces a great colour reproduction thanks to the 55000 colours that it is capable of supporting.

As one would expect, Multimedia features are comprehensive on the Blackberry 9300 Curve 3G. The phone has a camera facility that captures images in a resolution of 2 mega pixels. Although this is a fairly standard camera, it still however offers a reasonable quality of image and is perfect for capturing those impromptu moments. This is a fixed focus camera but there is also the option to shoot video footage if required. The handset has 256MB of built in flash memory, however thanks to its support for SD cards this can be upgraded to 32GB. A host of audio file formats are compatible with the phone. MP3, e AAC+ and WAV file are amongst the range supported. A dedicated set of keys specifically for music playback make using the phone as an MP3 player a pleasure. As always the inclusion of a headphone jack socket is welcomed so your own choice of headphones can be used with the handset. The Blackberry 9300 Curve 3G is a pleasing handset. The Qwerty keypad and great connectivity options will appeal to people looking to regularly message or update social networking sites, whilst the styles offers something different from the generic touchscreen smartphones.

The Blackberry 9300 Curve 3G and the Dell Streak 16GB are available now.

How to Save Battery Power on BlackBerry

How to Save Battery Power on BlackBerry

Tips to maximize the time between battery charges for Blackberry cell phones (many of these tips are applicable to cell phones in general, too) are provided below. Most individuals should be able to do at least a couple of the suggestions with little negative impact. They are presented below in no specific order. Battery power can be maximized by following these simple suggestions.

Tips :

Use a land line when possible. You’ll not only save battery life doing this, but you’ll save plan minutes, too.
Use the phone while connected to a car charger or AC adapter if available. Using the phone this way reduces the burden of powering the phone by the internal battery alone. Most phones require a minimum amount of battery power to work this way though – so if the battery is drained completely, it may not work.
Reduce the amount of time back lighting is on. Locate the options or settings page to adjust the length of back lighting time, and/or reduce its brightness to a usable but low level.
Turn off Bluetooth (BT) radio when not needed. Locate the options or settings page to disable the Bluetooth radio if you do not use these devices (BT headset, external GPS, etc.) with the phone.
Disable global cell mode. When in a particular country, set the cell mode to only the local frequency bands. For example, many people in the United States can save power by switching to 1XEV mode.
Minimize use of GPS. The GPS makes use of an additional dedicated radio and processor to calculate your location. These specialized hardware components consume additional power that is in excess of the cell phone’s power requirements.
Turn off Wi-Fi. Like the GPS function, the WiFi capability also relies on an additional dedicated radio and other hardware that must be powered when “on”. If not actively browsing the Internet or updating your software, disable Wi-Fi mode.
Minimize using the phone for entertainment purposes. Using the phone for games, listening to audio, watching video, etc. consumes more battery power than if the phone were simply powered up in standby (waiting for a call).
Minimize internet access usage. This includes web browsing, email and streaming of any audio or video content.
Keep cell calls brief. The longer the phone is in an active state, the more quickly the battery will be depleted.
Turn off cell when in fringe coverage areas when possible. Cell phones adjust output power up and down as needed to maintain contact with cell towers, even in standby. The greater the distance between the tower and the phone; the more power used by the cell phone to maintain contact. This translates to rapid battery discharge when in deep fringe areas.
Turn off cell when not needed. As stated above, the phone still uses power, even in standby. The standby state is one that allows the phone to be quickly located on the network when called. Shutting the phone off completely will stop draining battery power.
Set your phone to automatically turn off at night when you need least. This is very simple and will give you at least an additional eight hours of battery life, and particularly important if unable to recharge over night. To do this go to “options,” then “auto on/off” and choose the time when you know you will probably be in bed by. The other thing left to do is set the “on” time (when you usually wake up by.)

Battery power is saved by turning the power off at times when the BlackBerry smartphone is not being used. so that the BlackBerry smartphone has a chance to receive the email messages sent to you during the time that the BlackBerry smartphone was turned off. This way, the email messages have already been received when you are ready to read them.
