The Blackberry Torch 9800 is the handset that many phone fans have been waiting for, a handset that combines RIM’s core principles of a Qwerty keypad and great messaging facilities alongside some superb new touchscreen technology.

With regards to looks, the Blackberry Torch 9800 continues in the footsteps of previous models in that it is a well built device that sports many typical Blackberry style elements. The Qwerty keypad on this model is a slider design, making more room available on the fascia for the new touch screen. The slider feels very well constructed, unlike many alternatives currently available. When opened, the keypad adds a further 37mm to the phones overall height of 111mm. This is plenty of room to make the keypad functional, without making the handset feel oversized. The phone is fairly similar in dimensions to the Bold series when closed, although the 161g weight does make it feel a little on the heavy side. For Blackberry users used to the optical trackpad for navigation, it is still present on this model, and is one of only a few features on the front of the handset. Others include the Call, Menu, Back and End buttons. Above these you will find the new display, a 3.2″ capacitive touch screen capable of displaying a 480 x 360 resolution.
